June 2015 newsletter

Hello from Diabetes UK Richmond and Twickenham Group

You are invited to an OPEN MEETING

When:        Tuesday 16 June 2015 at 7.30 pm

Where:       St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Twickenham,        TW1 3NJ

On:            The links between diabetes, heart issues and strokes.

With:          Ron Grant, CEO Upbeat Heart Prevention &    Patient  Support Group

There will be the usual Q & A session and light refreshments. A donation of £1 towards running costs is suggested.  All are welcome.

At the 12 May 2015 meeting Kathy Hilton, dietitian at Kingston Hospital, entertained us with an exercise that had us guessing how many sugar cubes there were in a wide-ranging variety of food and drinks. She also distributed a number of informative leaflets – look out for them on our website. www.DUKRT.org.uk

Members seemed to like the new more sociable layout of the room, where they were seated at tables, complete with small quiz, rather than in rows.

FUNDRAISING

Richmond May Fair and Twickenham HANDS Fair went well in that we recruited a number of new members and raised over £140 at Richmond and £95 at Twickenham.

In May Elizabeth Raven-Hill and Trisha Shirt walked the six-mile route from Kew Bridge to Richmond Bridge and back and raised a grand total of £580, to be split between Kew Rotary and our group.

Many thanks to those who not only sponsored them but also contributed to our stall’s success by way of books, bric-a-brac and CDs.

If you do have any unwanted bric-a-brac, please contact Jane Williams via phone 07985 282306 or email jwilliams117@googlemail.com.  We can collect.

We look forward to hearing from you and to seeing you soon.
